What We Do

MADres will develop four playbooks and accompanying video material, supported by activities such as coaching and speaker engagement. All resources will be made publicly available. For BEDA members and those belonging to BEDA’s member organisations, additional actions will be provided to support #impactbydesign.

From spring 2026: Glorious 42 expert access and booking for your events
From summer 2026: Workshop materials and Train-the-Trainer systems
Stay tuned: Acceleration programmes for the three objectives

Playbooks as Navigation Tools

The playbooks are intended to support designers and educators to overcome barriers to implementing projects and initiatives related to digital ethics, planetary design, and accessibility. These playbooks synthesise practical knowledge and best-practice cases with business case development.

Train-the-Trainer: Spreading the Knowledge

Knowledge — much like a ‘well-cooked Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster’ — must be handled with care. The Train-the-Trainer initiative is straightforward: rather than relying solely on the playbooks, trainers are equipped with the playbooks and additional workshop materials, enabling them to share the knowledge more effectively. This opportunity is open to all BEDA members – stay tuned for further information.

Are you a design museum or design organisation that’s interested, but not yet a BEDA member?

Deep Talk: The Gateway to Knowledge — Starting March 2026

The MADres ‘Deep Talk’ is an advanced opportunity that allows BEDA members to reserve a slot with the MADres Expert Board, the Glorious 42 through an easy-to-use booking system for a conference, symposium, or consultation. This will be available from mid-2026.

As we are inspired by ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ by Douglas Adams, here’s a more fun way of explaining Deep Talk.

The most extraordinary supercomputer, ‘Deep Thought’, famously declared that the answer to life, the universe, and everything is ‘42’ — but neither the question nor the reason why it is 42 was provided. This reflects the situation that Design and BEDA are often confronted with — and where a powerful network of experts comes into play: the Glorious 42. We might not know the questions BEDA or MADres will face, but the G42 are quite likely to know the answers.

With the G42, MADres offers this response: ‘Expert knowledge for questions we do not yet know.’

Two older adults engage in a lively conversation in a formal indoor setting. One gestures emphatically while the other listens with focus. In the background, other attendees and a teal wall with Lithuanian text suggest a professional or academic event. The moment captures thoughtful exchange and active participation.

Heart of Change: Accelerating Innovation

Even the wisest sometimes need an outside expert perspective. That’s where Heart of Change comes into play. It’s an acceleration programme designed to support designer minds in achieving breakthrough solutions and innovations. The programme features peer-to-peer expert coaching, where knowledge is not merely dispensed but collaboratively built. This ensures that ideas can evolve through online coaching sessions.

Are you a designer or a design agency? The booking system will be available soon.

Design is About Shaping the Future; Policy is How to Make it Stick

In recent years, the landscape that design navigates has changed dramatically. Today’s Design is about innovation and supporting market value, and it’s also about creating social cohesion, meaning and understanding in uncertain environments. This has to be taken into account by Design Policies and policy makers. For this, the MADres team researches and aims to develop a Living Design Policy Framework. And, BEDA members can contribute to the development of this by serving as Policy Test Labs, thereby enhancing the iterative development process. Not a BEDA member but interested?

The Glorious 42: The Keepers of the Answer

G42 is not just a group of experts—it is a consortium of design-driven individuals who draw on their deep understanding of design and the European economic and political ecosystem. Whether the focus is on sustainable manufacturing, disruptive innovation, or tackling wicked problems, G42 sets the stage for a promising answer. Their motto: The answer is 42 – for the questions we do not yet know.
